Synagogue in Lesko

Synagogue in Lesko

The synagogue in Lesko was built between 1626 and 1654 on the site of an old synagogue. In 1838, the gables and roof were rebuilt and the interior decoration changed.

During World War II, the Nazis completely devastated the interior of the synagogue. After the war ended, the synagogue stood abandoned for 10 years until the roof collapsed in 1957. Since then, the local municipal authorities have taken an interest in the fate of the building and are gradually renovating it. After the renovation, the Art Gallery of the Bieszczady Group of Artists began its activities in the building, and since 1995 it has also housed the Museum of Galician Jews.
