Its first exhibition was solemnly opened on 10 April 1910.The museum began with a private collection of Kazimierz and Tadeusz Osiński and numerous donations made by the general public. Now, the new museum building, constructed in 2008, houses permanent and temporary exhibitions of national and international renown.
